Sorry the internet has been down for almost two days.
Yesterday we didn't have school so Angie went and worked in the office and played with the kids. Then Angie had a big project she wanted me to get done. It is hard to explain, but it had to do with over 300 felt pieces that are used to tell Bible stories. They were all numbered and needed to be put on these mats that had corresponding numbers. The girls helped me and I am so grateful, because it would have taken me forever! We got it done in like 5 hours. Then at 2:30 Brett and Angie had a meeting so I hung out with the kids.
Today we didn't have school again so Angie and I went to visit some ladies in the community that she has started a prayer meeting and Bible study with. I was really excited because last time I was here we did not get to interact with the people in the community. The first house we stopped at was a lady whose church has been doing prison ministry, so we took four backpacks full of stuff for her to take with her this time (we walked to her house carrying all the stuff.) Her and Angie talked in Creole and Angie translated for me. We found out that they were not going back to the prison but were going to visit people living in a nursing home type place, so we left the stuff for her to take to them. It was so amazing watching Angie interact with her, Angie's creole is amazing. We only stayed a few minutes but before we left Angie prayed for her.
The second house we stopped at was a lady named Linda who lived with her parents, sister, brother, and their kids. Linda always wants to give Angie food, so we had a "hot dog sandwich" prepared for us. This hot dog sandwich was...chopped up hot dogs mixed in a sauce made from ketchup, mayo, Tabasco, and butter on a bun, she also gave us coka (coke.) Angie and her spoke for a little bit then we went outside to sit and talk with her and her sister. We talked about all kinds of things. They wanted me to talk more, but I didn't really know what to say (Angie translated back and forth.) I told them about myself a little bit, but didn't really know what else to say. While they were just talking they wanted my input, but it was hard to interact when I had to wait for Angie to translate. Right when we got ready to leave I could tell Angie was having a pretty important conversation so I just waited. When they were done Angie told me that they told her they were afraid to die so Angie told them her thoughts on it and they wanted mine. I thought for a moment then told them I do not want to die right now because I want to have children some day, and still so much I want to do, but that I was not scared to die because I know what is next....Heaven. Now that I think about that it seems so much for crazy, that WE, sinners have the chance to have eternal life with the Father. We are not worth it, but He sent His one and only, perfect Son so that we could have eternal life with Him.
The last house we went to was a much longer walk, it was to see a lady who hurt her foot last night. While there a member of her family named Jeffery is learning English and wanted to practice his English. So he asked me all kinds of questions. I tried to use words he may not know so he could learn them. His English was really good. We were there for a little while.
Today it really made me realize how Haitians really live. I got to see the inside of a home, and spend time with them. Learning about their lives and families. I really cared for what they said and I learned some of their needs so I can continue to pray for them. Actually walking through the city was way different than driving through it. Cars do not yield to pedestrians and they have no traffic laws. I had to step over trash, walk around dogs and goats, wave and smile to the children who were so happy to see us. It was amazing being about to meet the people that Angie calls friends.
When we were leaving the first lady's house she wanted to walk us down her ally holding our hands and she said "now I have a new friend, but we are not only friends we are sisters in Christ."
That is so true, they aren't just strangers living outside the walls I am sitting in, they are people, God's children whom He loves and cares for. They are my friends.
Well, the kids want me to play a game with them.
(I didn't proof read this, so sorry for the mistakes.)

ReplyDeleteIt was so good to read about your day. I am excited for you that you had the opportunity to go to the streets and homes. Just being yourself and learning about others. Soak it up but also pour it out!
